Organized by the FNQLSDI, the sixth edition of the Symposium on waste management in First Nations in Quebec and Labrador took place from August 2 to 4, 2022 in Listuguj under the theme of Celebration.
For the first time in three years, the event was held in person and brought together 38 representatives from 19 First Nations communities, in addition to welcoming a dozen invited collaborators.
This year, the formula was revisited to offer more discussion workshops and infrastructure visits. The objective was to highlight concrete solutions to better respond to the reality of WM operators.
In parallel to the Symposium, a new feature was the holding of activities for eco-patrollers, in particular the mentoring workshop for the 2022 cohort by WM experts.
In addition, there were numerous presentations on the social economy, diversifying funding sources, comprehensive community planning, data collection and curbside recycling.
The Celebration theme was also highlighted during a workshop where participants were invited to share their achievements and successes over the past year.
Finally, this event was filled with strong and inspiring moments for each of us.
