Job Offer – Paralegal

Your mandate   

Under the supervision of the coordinator of the FNQLSDI’s Centre of Expertise on Impact and Benefit Agreements (CEERA), provide support to First Nations in the negotiation of these agreements. 

Main responsibilities    

  • Participate in preparatory and negotiation meetings, take notes and follow up on the parties’ commitments  
  • Support the CEERA in negotiation files  
  • Develop and update meeting schedules  
  • Coordinate the organization of meetings and follow up on the availability of First Nations members  
  • Carry out specific legal research in relation to the assessment of the impacts of projects on the environment and on ancestral rights in one or more of the following fields: mining, forestry or energy 
  • Monitor jurisprudential developments in Indigenous law and natural resources law  
  • Carry out document management  
  • Participate and collaborate in the various activities of the FNQLSDI  
  • Assume various punctual or special mandates related to the projects 

Do you have the profile?   

  • Experience in Indigenous law in Canada, including the duty to consult  
  • Experience in project management and monitoring, budget planning  
  • Knowledge of First Nations issues, priorities, perspectives and aspirations in relation to socio-economic development, consultation and accommodation  
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English. Knowledge of an Indigenous language is an asset  
  • Proficiency in the Office suite and related computer tools  
  • Availability for frequent travel (health regulations permitting)  
  • Experience working with an Indigenous or First Nations organization is an asset  
  • Experience in business, commercial and mining law is an asset
